This matchup uses the J5AH5E60A1C00AA air handler, an upflow unit with a 3/4 HP blower motor. The 5 ton capacity puts it in the range typically used for large homes. It uses R-454B refrigerant on standard 208/230V single-phase power and is approved for both DOE North and South regions.

Common Questions

What comes in the box, and what do I still need?
You get the outdoor heat pump, the indoor air handler, and the 10 kW heat kit. You'll still need a copper line set sized for your run, a condenser pad, an outdoor disconnect, electrical wiring, and a heat-pump-compatible thermostat. Professional installation by a licensed HVAC technician is required for refrigerant work.
Why does a heat pump need a heat kit?
A heat pump heats by moving warmth from outdoor air into your home, and it gets less efficient as temperatures drop. The 10 kW heat strip covers that gap on the coldest days, keeps air warm during defrost cycles, and gives you emergency heat if the outdoor unit ever needs service.
Is 5 tons the right size for my home?
5 tons is a common fit for large homes, but square footage alone isn't a reliable guide. Insulation, windows, sun exposure, and ductwork all matter. A Manual J load calculation from your installer is the best way to confirm sizing before you buy.
