One outdoor unit for summer and winter. This Oxbox 3.5 ton heat pump system ships with its matched upflow air handler and an 8 kW heat kit, ready to heat and cool mid-size to larger homes.

Key Features

At 3.5 tons and 15.2 SEER2, this Oxbox heat pump system sits in Oxbox's higher efficiency tier. That's a step above minimum efficiency, which adds up in hot climates. The heat pump handles both heating and cooling, and the 8 kW heat kit in the air handler steps in when outdoor temperatures drop or the system goes through defrost. This matchup uses the J5AH5E60A1C00AA air handler, an upflow unit with a 3/4 HP blower motor. The 3.5 ton capacity puts it in the range typically used for mid-size to larger homes. It uses R-454B refrigerant on standard 208/230V single-phase power and is approved for both DOE North and South regions.

  • Heating and cooling from one outdoor unit: the reversing heat pump replaces a separate furnace in most mild-winter climates, so there's one system to service instead of two.
  • 8 kW auxiliary heat kit, included: installs inside the air handler and steps in automatically when the heat pump needs help or during defrost. No separate purchase to track down.
  • Upflow air handler with built-in evaporator coil: matched to this outdoor unit, with a 3/4 HP blower motor moving air through your ductwork.
  • 15.2 SEER2 efficiency: Oxbox's higher efficiency tier, for lower operating costs through long cooling seasons.
  • Straightforward electrical: 26.2 A minimum circuit ampacity on the outdoor unit keeps breaker and wire sizing simple for a 3.5 ton install.
  • Scroll compressor: a proven compressor design known for smooth, steady operation and long service life.
  • R-454B refrigerant: the low-GWP A2L refrigerant replacing R-410A in new residential equipment.

Common Questions

What else do I need for installation?
Plan on a copper line set sized for your run, a condenser pad, an outdoor disconnect, electrical wiring, and a heat-pump-compatible thermostat. Refrigerant work must be done by a licensed HVAC technician.
When does the heat kit turn on?
Your thermostat brings on the 8 kW heat strip when the heat pump can't keep up on its own, during defrost cycles, or when you switch to emergency heat. Most of the time, the heat pump does the heating by itself.
Is 3.5 tons the right size for my home?
3.5 tons is a common fit for mid-size to larger homes, but square footage alone isn't a reliable guide. Insulation, windows, sun exposure, and ductwork all matter. A Manual J load calculation from your installer is the best way to confirm sizing before you buy.
How do I get the 10-year parts warranty?
Coverage is 5 years on parts as standard. Register the system with Oxbox after installation to extend parts coverage to 10 years.
