Everything on the equipment list, matched and in one order: a 2.5 ton Oxbox heat pump, a matched upflow air handler, and 5 kW of backup electric heat for a modest single-family home.

Key Features

At 2.5 tons and 15.2 SEER2, this Oxbox heat pump system sits in Oxbox's higher efficiency tier. The extra efficiency pays off most where the system runs for much of the year. The heat pump handles both heating and cooling, and the 5 kW heat kit in the air handler steps in when outdoor temperatures drop or the system goes through defrost. This matchup uses the J5AH5E36A1B00AA air handler, an upflow unit with a 1/2 HP blower motor. It is a practical match for modest single-family homes and larger condos, pending a load calculation from your installer. It uses R-454B refrigerant on standard 208/230V single-phase power and is approved for both DOE North and South regions.

  • One system, two seasons: the heat pump reverses refrigerant flow to heat your home in winter and cool it in summer.
  • Scroll compressor: fewer moving parts than older piston designs, for steady, dependable operation.
  • Upflow air handler with built-in evaporator coil: matched to this outdoor unit, with a 1/2 HP blower motor moving air through your ductwork.
  • 5 kW auxiliary heat kit, included: installs inside the air handler and steps in automatically when the heat pump needs help or during defrost. No separate purchase to track down.
  • 74 dB sound rating: the outdoor unit's published sound level, useful for planning placement near bedrooms, patios, or neighbors.
  • 15.2 SEER2 efficiency: Oxbox's higher efficiency tier, for lower operating costs through long cooling seasons.
  • R-454B refrigerant: the low-GWP A2L refrigerant replacing R-410A in new residential equipment.

Common Questions

What else do I need for installation?
Plan on a copper line set sized for your run, a condenser pad, an outdoor disconnect, electrical wiring, and a heat-pump-compatible thermostat. Refrigerant work must be done by a licensed HVAC technician.
Why does a heat pump need a heat kit?
A heat pump heats by moving warmth from outdoor air into your home, and it gets less efficient as temperatures drop. The 5 kW heat strip covers that gap on the coldest days, keeps air warm during defrost cycles, and gives you emergency heat if the outdoor unit ever needs service.
Is 2.5 tons the right size for my home?
2.5 tons is a common fit for modest single-family homes and larger condos, but square footage alone isn't a reliable guide. Insulation, windows, sun exposure, and ductwork all matter. A Manual J load calculation from your installer is the best way to confirm sizing before you buy.
14.3 or 15.2 SEER2: which should I choose?
Both meet current efficiency requirements. The 15.2 SEER2 systems cost a bit more up front and use less electricity to cool, so they make the most sense where the system runs much of the year. The 14.3 SEER2 systems keep the purchase price lower. This system is the 15.2 SEER2 version.
