One outdoor unit for summer and winter. This Oxbox 2 ton heat pump system ships with its matched upflow air handler and a 5 kW heat kit, ready to heat and cool small homes, condos, and apartments.

Key Features

This Oxbox 2 ton heat pump split system is rated at 15.2 SEER2, Oxbox's higher efficiency tier. The extra efficiency pays off most where the system runs for much of the year. In summer it cools; in winter the same outdoor unit reverses to pull heat in from outside air, with the included 5 kW heat strip standing by for the coldest mornings, defrost cycles, or emergency heat. This matchup uses the J5AH5E24A1B00AA air handler, an upflow unit with a 1/3 HP blower motor. It is a practical match for small homes, condos, and apartments, pending a load calculation from your installer. Everything runs on R-454B refrigerant and 208/230V single-phase power, and it's approved for installation in both the DOE North and South regions.

  • Heating and cooling from one outdoor unit: the reversing heat pump replaces a separate furnace in most mild-winter climates, so there's one system to service instead of two.
  • Upflow air handler with built-in evaporator coil: matched to this outdoor unit, with a 1/3 HP blower motor moving air through your ductwork.
  • 15.2 SEER2 efficiency: a step above minimum efficiency, which adds up in climates where the AC runs most of the year.
  • Scroll compressor: fewer moving parts than older piston designs, for steady, dependable operation.
  • R-454B refrigerant: the low-GWP A2L refrigerant replacing R-410A in new residential equipment.
  • 5 kW auxiliary heat kit, included: installs inside the air handler and steps in automatically when the heat pump needs help or during defrost. No separate purchase to track down.
  • Straightforward electrical: 14.7 A minimum circuit ampacity on the outdoor unit keeps breaker and wire sizing simple for a 2 ton install.

Common Questions

What else do I need for installation?
Plan on a copper line set sized for your run, a condenser pad, an outdoor disconnect, electrical wiring, and a heat-pump-compatible thermostat. Refrigerant work must be done by a licensed HVAC technician.
Why does a heat pump need a heat kit?
A heat pump heats by moving warmth from outdoor air into your home, and it gets less efficient as temperatures drop. The 5 kW heat strip covers that gap on the coldest days, keeps air warm during defrost cycles, and gives you emergency heat if the outdoor unit ever needs service.
Is 2 tons the right size for my home?
2 tons is a common fit for small homes, condos, and apartments, but square footage alone isn't a reliable guide. Insulation, windows, sun exposure, and ductwork all matter. A Manual J load calculation from your installer is the best way to confirm sizing before you buy.
14.3 or 15.2 SEER2: which should I choose?
Both meet current efficiency requirements. The 15.2 SEER2 systems cost a bit more up front and use less electricity to cool, so they make the most sense where the system runs much of the year. The 14.3 SEER2 systems keep the purchase price lower. This system is the 15.2 SEER2 version.
