A closet-friendly Oxbox system for smaller homes, condos, and additions: 1.5 ton heat pump, wall-hung air handler with front return, and a 5 kW heat kit, all matched and shipped together.

Key Features

Rated at 14.3 SEER2 (Oxbox's standard efficiency tier), this 1.5 ton Oxbox heat pump split system is built for smaller homes, condos, and additions. In summer it cools; in winter the same outdoor unit reverses to pull heat in from outside air, with the included 5 kW heat strip standing by for the coldest mornings, defrost cycles, or emergency heat. Indoors, the wall-hung air handler takes return air straight through a grille on its front panel, so it fits closets that weren't built for a floor-standing cabinet and return plenum. Everything runs on R-454B refrigerant and 208/230V single-phase power, and it's approved for installation in both the DOE North and South regions.

  • Heating and cooling from one outdoor unit: the reversing heat pump replaces a separate furnace in most mild-winter climates, so there's one system to service instead of two.
  • Wall-hung air handler: mounts directly on the wall, freeing up floor space and making it a direct path for replacing an existing wall-mounted closet unit.
  • R-454B refrigerant: a lower global warming potential refrigerant that meets current EPA requirements for new systems.
  • Front return air: air returns through the front of the cabinet, eliminating the need for a separate return plenum or stand underneath.
  • Scroll compressor: fewer moving parts than older piston designs, for steady, dependable operation.
  • 5 kW auxiliary heat kit, included: installs inside the air handler and steps in automatically when the heat pump needs help or during defrost. No separate purchase to track down.
  • Straightforward electrical: 11.5 A minimum circuit ampacity on the outdoor unit keeps breaker and wire sizing simple for a 1.5 ton install.

Common Questions

What else do I need for installation?
Plan on a copper line set sized for your run, a condenser pad, an outdoor disconnect, electrical wiring, wall-mounting hardware, a return filter, and a heat-pump-compatible thermostat. Refrigerant work must be done by a licensed HVAC technician.
Will this fit where my old wall-mounted unit was?
It's designed for exactly that kind of space: closets and utility areas where the air handler hangs on the wall and pulls return air through its front. Before ordering, compare the cabinet dimensions and duct connection points against your existing unit, and have your installer confirm clearances and wall support.
What does front return mean?
Return air (the air pulled back from your living space to be cooled or heated) enters through a filter grille on the front of the air handler. That removes the need for a return plenum or platform under the unit, which is what lets it work in shallow closets and wall-mounted setups.
Why does a heat pump need a heat kit?
A heat pump heats by moving warmth from outdoor air into your home, and it gets less efficient as temperatures drop. The 5 kW heat strip covers that gap on the coldest days, keeps air warm during defrost cycles, and gives you emergency heat if the outdoor unit ever needs service.
How do I get the 10-year parts warranty?
Coverage is 5 years on parts as standard. Register the system with Oxbox after installation to extend parts coverage to 10 years.
