Year-round comfort in one box: an Oxbox 1.5 ton heat pump outdoor unit, a matched upflow air handler, and a 5 kW electric heat kit. Together they make up the equipment side of a complete heating and cooling system for a smaller home, condo, or addition.

Key Features

At 1.5 tons and 14.3 SEER2, this Oxbox heat pump system sits in Oxbox's standard efficiency tier. The heat pump handles both heating and cooling, and the 5 kW heat kit in the air handler steps in when outdoor temperatures drop or the system goes through defrost. This matchup uses the J5AH4P24A1B00AA air handler, an upflow unit with a 1/5 HP blower motor. The 1.5 ton capacity puts it in the range typically used for smaller homes, condos, and additions. It uses R-454B refrigerant on standard 208/230V single-phase power and is approved for both DOE North and South regions.

  • Heating and cooling from one outdoor unit: the reversing heat pump replaces a separate furnace in most mild-winter climates, so there's one system to service instead of two.
  • 72 dB sound rating: the outdoor unit's published sound level, useful for planning placement near bedrooms, patios, or neighbors.
  • R-454B refrigerant: a lower global warming potential refrigerant that meets current EPA requirements for new systems.
  • 5 kW auxiliary heat kit, included: installs inside the air handler and steps in automatically when the heat pump needs help or during defrost. No separate purchase to track down.
  • Scroll compressor: a proven compressor design known for smooth, steady operation and long service life.
  • Upflow air handler with built-in evaporator coil: matched to this outdoor unit, with a 1/5 HP blower motor moving air through your ductwork.

Common Questions

What comes in the box, and what do I still need?
You get the outdoor heat pump, the indoor air handler, and the 5 kW heat kit. You'll still need a copper line set sized for your run, a condenser pad, an outdoor disconnect, electrical wiring, and a heat-pump-compatible thermostat. Professional installation by a licensed HVAC technician is required for refrigerant work.
Why does a heat pump need a heat kit?
A heat pump heats by moving warmth from outdoor air into your home, and it gets less efficient as temperatures drop. The 5 kW heat strip covers that gap on the coldest days, keeps air warm during defrost cycles, and gives you emergency heat if the outdoor unit ever needs service.
Is 1.5 tons the right size for my home?
1.5 tons is a common fit for smaller homes, condos, and additions, but square footage alone isn't a reliable guide. Insulation, windows, sun exposure, and ductwork all matter. A Manual J load calculation from your installer is the best way to confirm sizing before you buy.
How do I get the 10-year parts warranty?
Coverage is 5 years on parts as standard. Register the system with Oxbox after installation to extend parts coverage to 10 years.
