What This Is

An electric heat kit is a strip of resistance heating elements that installs directly inside a Goodman packaged unit. When the thermostat calls for heat, current passes through the elements and the unit's blower distributes warm air through the home's ductwork. Reliable resistance heat with no moving heating parts.

This is the typical heat source for AC packaged units in mobile/manufactured home applications — these units cool out of the box, and the heat kit converts them into a year-round heating + cooling solution. The 5 kW size is sized for smaller home footprints.

Compatible with Goodman GPCH/GPHH packaged units (mobile/manufactured home market). The kit installs in a dedicated slot inside the package unit cabinet.
How much heat does it provide?
This is a 5 kW kit, which produces about 16,200 BTU/h of heat output. As a rough sizing guide: 5 kW heats a small space, 8–10 kW handles a typical home in mild climates, and 15 kW provides robust heating for larger homes or colder climates. If this isn't the right size for your space, the 10 kW or 15 kW version may be a better fit.
Do I need this if I have a heat pump packaged unit?
Recommended in colder climates as backup. A heat pump packaged unit (GPHH series) can handle heating on its own in mild winters, but performance drops as outdoor temperatures fall — a heat kit provides resistance backup. For AC packaged units (GPCH series) without a heat pump, the heat kit is the heat source.
Is this hard to install?
The kit installs in a dedicated slot inside the packaged unit cabinet and connects via the factory-prepared wiring harness. Wiring runs to the existing thermostat circuit — standard HVAC wiring practice, no refrigerant work involved.
