Cooling + Electric Heat Split System

R-32 Refrigerant

Built around R-32 — the next-generation residential refrigerant with lower environmental impact than R-410A. R-32 systems require up to 30% less refrigerant charge and deliver improved thermodynamic performance, meeting current EPA and AIM Act requirements.

Two-Stage Scroll Compressor

The outdoor condenser uses a two-stage scroll compressor that operates at lower capacity during mild weather and ramps up to full capacity when demand increases. Improves part-load efficiency, reduces temperature swings, and helps with humidity removal.

Multi-Speed ECM Blower

The air handler uses a Multi-Speed ECM (electronically commutated motor) that adjusts airflow precisely to demand. ECM blowers use significantly less electricity than older PSC motors, particularly during long low-speed operation, and run more quietly.

Electric Heat Included

A 10 kW HKTSN10X1 electric heat kit is included with this system and installs inside the air handler. Provides roughly 34,000 BTU/h of supplemental electric heat for cooler weather and emergency backup heat.

What comes in this kit?
Two components shipped together: (1) the outdoor condenser GLXS5BA6010A and (2) the indoor air handler AMST60DU13. Line set (refrigerant tubing), thermostat, ductwork, condensate drain, and electrical wiring are NOT included and are supplied by your HVAC contractor based on your home's installation needs. The 10 kW HKTSN10X1 electric heat kit is included and ships installed in the air handler.
Does this system provide heat?
This system is cooling-only as shipped. We sell a factory-matched 10 kW HKTSN10X1 electric heat kit for this air handler, providing approximately 34,000 BTU/h of supplemental electric heat. For more efficient heating in cool weather, consider a Heat Pump Split System instead — heat pumps move heat rather than generating it through resistance, which saves energy.
Why buy as a matched kit vs. separate components?
Matched systems are AHRI-certified to deliver their published SEER2 rating — mixing components from different manufacturers or model families often results in lower real-world efficiency and can complicate warranty claims. The factory match also ensures refrigerant line sizing, TXV calibration, and airflow are correct from day one.
What does AHRI-certified mean?
AHRI (Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute) independently tests and certifies matched HVAC system combinations. An AHRI certificate confirms that a specific condenser + air handler combination delivers the stated SEER2 rating under standardized test conditions. Many utility rebates and tax credits require AHRI-certified matched systems — your HVAC contractor can provide the AHRI certificate for this combination.
What is R-32 refrigerant?
R-32 is the next-generation residential refrigerant replacing R-410A. It has lower environmental impact, requires up to 30% less charge per system, and offers improved energy efficiency. R-32 is being adopted industry-wide to meet EPA and AIM Act requirements phasing down legacy refrigerants. R-32 systems are not backward-compatible with R-410A equipment.
What size home does this system serve?
A 5.0-ton system is generally appropriate for homes in the 2,500–3,200 sq. ft. range for cooling, though climate zone, insulation, window area, and home layout all affect sizing. A professional Manual J load calculation by your HVAC contractor is the most accurate way to confirm the right system size for your specific home.
Can I use the air handler in any orientation?
Yes — the AMST60DU13 is a Multi-Position air handler, supporting all four installation orientations: upflow, downflow, horizontal-left, and horizontal-right. Your HVAC contractor will select the orientation based on your home's ductwork layout and available install space.
Will this fit my existing ductwork?
Probably — most residential ductwork is designed for systems in the 2–5 ton range. Your HVAC contractor will measure static pressure and verify that your existing ducts can handle this system's airflow. In some cases ducts need to be resized or rebalanced. The air handler cabinet is D (24-1/2" wide).
How do I register the warranty?
Each component must be registered separately at Goodman's warranty registration page within 60 days of installation. You'll need the model number and serial number (from each data plate), installation date, and installing contractor information for both the condenser and air handler. Without timely registration, warranty terms revert to a shorter base period.
