Complete Heat Pump Split System 1.5 Ton · 15.2 SEER2 Heats & Cools R-32 Refrigerant Single-Stage Scroll
A complete, factory-matched heat pump system. This kit pairs an R-32 outdoor heat pump with a Multi-Position ECM air handler — both engineered to work together as an AHRI-certified system. Heats AND cools using a reversing valve. In cold climates, add an electric backup heat kit for supplemental warmth.

Frequently Asked Questions

What comes in this kit?
Two components shipped together: (1) the outdoor heat pump GLZS4BA1810A and (2) the indoor air handler AMST24BU13. Line set (refrigerant tubing), thermostat, ductwork, condensate drain, and electrical wiring are NOT included — your HVAC contractor supplies those. Electric heat kits for cold-weather backup are sold separately.
How does a heat pump actually heat my home?
A heat pump uses refrigerant to move heat between outdoors and indoors. In summer it absorbs heat from inside and releases it outside (cooling). In winter, a reversing valve flips the cycle — the outdoor unit extracts heat from the outdoor air (even when it's cold) and moves it inside. When outdoor temps drop below the heat pump's efficient operating range, supplemental electric heat kits in the air handler provide extra heat.
Heat pump vs. gas furnace — which one?
Go heat pump if you're in an all-electric home, a mild-to-moderate climate, or want the efficiency of electric heating. Go gas furnace (with a separate AC condenser) if you have natural gas service and a cold climate where gas heat is typically more cost-effective. Heat pumps have improved dramatically in cold weather over the past decade, but local utility rates and climate still matter.
Do I need a backup heat kit?
In mild climates, a heat pump alone is often enough. In colder climates, a field-installable electric heat kit is recommended — it runs when outdoor temps drop below the heat pump's efficient operating range and kicks in during defrost cycles. Your contractor sizes the kit based on your climate zone and heating load.
Why buy as a matched kit vs. separate components?
Matched systems are AHRI-certified to deliver their published SEER2 rating. Mix components from different model families and you'll often get lower real-world efficiency and hassles with warranty claims. The factory match also makes sure refrigerant line sizing, TXV calibration, and airflow are right from day one.
What size home does this system cover?
A 1.5-ton system typically handles homes in the 600–900 sq. ft. range for cooling — small homes, condos, guest houses. Heating load is more climate-dependent — a professional Manual J load calculation is the right way to confirm the system size for your home.
What is R-32 refrigerant?
R-32 is replacing R-410A as the standard residential refrigerant. It runs more efficiently, uses roughly 30% less charge per system, and has a lower climate impact. EPA and AIM Act rules are phasing out R-410A. Not backward-compatible with R-410A equipment.
Can I install the air handler in any orientation?
Yes — the AMST24BU13 is a Multi-Position air handler. All four install orientations work: upflow, downflow, horizontal-left, horizontal-right. Your contractor picks the orientation based on your ductwork layout.
How do I register the warranty?
Register each component separately at Goodman's warranty page within 60 days of installation. You'll need the model number and serial number (from each data plate), install date, and installing contractor info for both the heat pump and air handler. Miss the 60-day window and you drop to the shorter base warranty.
