How does a heat pump actually work?
A heat pump uses refrigerant to move heat between inside and outside. In summer it works like an AC — pulling heat out of your home and releasing it outdoors. In winter a reversing valve flips the cycle: the unit extracts heat from the outdoor air (even when it's cold) and moves it inside. Same equipment, opposite direction, year-round comfort.
What size home does a 1.5-ton heat pump cover?
1.5-ton units typically handle homes in the 750–1,100 sq. ft. range for cooling. Heating loads and climate zone change the math though — a professional Manual J load calculation is the right way to size for your specific home, especially in regions with hard winters.
What is SEER2?
SEER2 is the DOE's current cooling efficiency rating — a 2023 update that uses more realistic test conditions than the old SEER standard. Higher number means lower summer electric bills. Can I pair this with my existing indoor coil or air handler?
Only if your indoor unit is R-32. R-32 and R-410A run at different pressures with different oils — mix them and you'll damage the equipment and void the warranty. For rated SEER2 performance, use an AHRI-certified matched R-32 indoor coil or air handler.
Do I need AHRI-certified matching?
The rated SEER2 applies to specific matched component combinations. Install this condenser with a non-matched coil and you won't hit the rated efficiency. You may also run into warranty issues and local code problems. Always install as an AHRI-certified matched system.
