Key Features

Why this package unit works

All-in-One Package Design

Everything — compressor, indoor coil, blower, controls — lives in one outdoor cabinet. No separate indoor air handler. No separate coil. Perfect for homes with tight indoor space, manufactured or mobile homes, and slab or rooftop installs.

Heats AND Cools

A reversing valve flips the refrigerant cycle seasonally — the same equipment that cools in summer heats in winter. One outdoor unit, year-round comfort, one refrigerant system.

R-32 Refrigerant — Built for What's Next

R-32 is the new residential refrigerant standard, replacing R-410A. Up to 10% more efficient, about 30% less charge per system, and meets today's EPA AIM Act rules. Built for R-32 from day one.

Two-Stage Scroll Compressor

A two-stage scroll compressor operates at lower capacity during mild weather and ramps up to full capacity when demand increases. In heat pump service this improves part-load efficiency, reduces temperature swings, and helps with humidity removal in cooling mode.

Flexible Outdoor Installation

Install on a concrete slab at ground level or on a rooftop platform. Ductwork connects directly to the cabinet — zero indoor footprint. Popular with manufactured homes, small single-story residences, and additions where interior space is premium.

Backed by Ace Air

This 5-ton packaged heat pump is part of the GPHH3 series — a single self-contained outdoor unit that delivers both heating and cooling. Rated at 13.4 SEER2 cooling (56,000 BTU/h) and 6.7 HSPF2 heating (54,000 BTU/h). Features a two-stage scroll compressor, multi-speed ECM indoor blower, all-aluminum evaporator coil, copper-tube/aluminum-fin condenser coil, totally enclosed permanently lubricated condenser fan motor, and quiet horizontal discharge. Ships fully charged. AHRI certified, ETL listed. Accepts a field-installed electric heat kit (sold separately) for supplemental heat. Maximum voltage 230V single-phase.

  • Energy-efficient scroll compressor — designed for efficient heating and cooling operation.
  • Multi-speed ECM indoor blower motor — electronically commutated motor delivers steady airflow with lower electrical draw than legacy PSC motors.
  • Quiet horizontal discharge — horizontal-discharge airflow design.
  • All-aluminum evaporator coil — corrosion-resistant aluminum tube and fin construction on the indoor coil.
  • Copper tube / aluminum fin condenser coil — outdoor coil construction for heat rejection durability.
  • Totally enclosed, permanently lubricated condenser fan motor — sealed motor design requires no field lubrication maintenance.
  • Fully charged system — ships pre-charged from the factory.
  • Electric heat kit available as a field-installed option — accepts a field-installed electric heat kit (sold separately) for supplemental heat.
  • AHRI certified; ETL listed — third-party certified for performance ratings and listed for safety.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a package unit?
A package unit (sometimes called "packaged" or "self-contained") houses the entire HVAC system — compressor, indoor coil, blower, controls — in a single outdoor cabinet. A split system has separate outdoor and indoor units connected by refrigerant lines. Package units are popular for homes without indoor mechanical space, rooftop installs, and manufactured or mobile homes.
Package unit vs. split system — which is right?
Go package if you have limited indoor space, a rooftop install, or a manufactured/mobile home. Go split if you want higher-efficiency options, quieter outdoor operation (your indoor equipment stays insulated from outdoor noise), and more flexible indoor placement. Your contractor can advise on fit for your home and ductwork layout.
How does a heat pump package unit heat my home?
Refrigerant moves heat between outdoors and indoors. In summer it absorbs heat from inside and releases it outside (cooling). In winter a reversing valve flips the cycle — it extracts heat from the outdoor air (even when cold) and moves it inside. In cold climates, supplemental electric heat strips can be added for extreme low temps.
What size home does a 5.0-ton unit cover?
5.0-ton package units typically handle homes in the 2,500–3,200 sq. ft. range for cooling. Heating load, climate zone, insulation, and window area change the math. A professional Manual J load calculation is the right way to size — especially for heat pumps in regions with real winters.
What do SEER2 and HSPF2 mean?
SEER2 is cooling efficiency — higher number means lower summer electric bills. HSPF2 is heating efficiency over a full season. The AAD-GPHH36031 rates at 13.4 SEER2 and 6.7 HSPF2. EER2 (10.6) is peak-summer efficiency — matters most if you're in a hot climate.
What is R-32 refrigerant?
R-32 is replacing R-410A as the standard residential refrigerant. It runs more efficiently, uses roughly 30% less charge per system, and has a lower climate impact. EPA and AIM Act rules are phasing out R-410A — R-32 is the direction the whole industry is going.
Where does a package unit get installed?
Most residential package units sit on a concrete slab at ground level next to the home, with supply and return ductwork routed through the wall or floor. Manufactured-home installs often use a rooftop platform instead. Location depends on ductwork layout, electrical service access, clearances, and local codes.
Do I need ductwork for this?
Yes. A package unit connects to conventional supply and return ductwork. Existing ducts? It connects at the outdoor wall. New ductwork? Your contractor will size and route it. Ductless (mini-split) systems are a different category entirely.
How do I register for the 10-year warranty?
Register at Ace Air's warranty page within 60 days of installation. You need: model number (AAD-GPHH36031), serial number (from the data plate), install date, and installing contractor info. Miss the 60-day window and you drop to the shorter base warranty.
