Key Features

Why this system works

Complete Factory-Matched System

Both components — outdoor heat pump and indoor air handler — are engineered and AHRI-certified to work together. You get the published 14.3 SEER2 efficiency rating, correct refrigerant line sizing, compatible controls, and one warranty covering the whole system.

Heats AND Cools

A reversing valve flips the refrigerant cycle seasonally — the same outdoor unit that cools in summer also heats in winter. 30,000 BTU/h cooling, 30,000 BTU/h heating at standard rating conditions. Year-round comfort, one unit.

R-32 Refrigerant — Built for What's Next

R-32 is the new residential refrigerant standard replacing R-410A. Up to 10% more efficient. About 30% less charge per system. Meets today's EPA AIM Act rules.

Single-Stage Scroll Compressor

The outdoor heat pump uses a proven single-stage scroll compressor — reliable, consistent performance in both heating and cooling modes with smooth operation and long service life.

Multi-Speed ECM Blower

The air handler uses an electronically commutated motor that matches airflow precisely to demand. ECM blowers use far less electricity than old PSC motors and run quieter, especially during long low-speed operation.

Backup Heat Kit Ready

The air handler accommodates field-installable electric heat kits. In cold climates, a backup heat kit provides supplemental heat when outdoor temps drop below the heat pump's efficient operating range. Important for homes in heating-dominant regions.

This complete heat pump split system pairs a 2.5 ton energy-efficient GLZS4B R-32 condenser with an AMST multi-position 9-speed ECM air handler and a matched electric heat kit, delivering 30,000 BTU of cooling and heating capacity at 14.5 SEER2 as an AHRI-matched system. SmartShift® technology manages the defrost cycle for quieter winter operation. AHRI Certified and ETL Listed; UL 60335-2-40 compliant.

  • Pre-charged with R-32 refrigerant — factory-charged condenser for 15 feet of line set to reduce installation time.
  • AHRI-matched system rating — this condenser/air handler/heat kit combination is rated as a system at 14.5 SEER2.
  • SmartShift® defrost technology — manages the defrost cycle quietly, reducing the abrupt sounds typical of older heat pumps.
  • Compressor crankcase heater — factory-installed for reliable cold-temperature starts.
  • Suction-line accumulator — factory-installed to protect the compressor from liquid refrigerant slugging during defrost.
  • A2L refrigerant compliance — air handler designed and tested to UL 60335-2-40 requirements for R-32 refrigerant safety.
  • Direct-drive 9-speed ECM blower motor — variable airflow speeds for matched comfort and efficiency.
  • Multi-position air handler — upflow, downflow, or horizontal — adapts to closets, attics, or basements.
  • Internal factory-installed TXV — thermal expansion valve included on the air handler for cooling and heat pump applications.
  • Electric heat kit included — matched HKTSN heat kit for supplemental heating in cold weather.

Frequently Asked Questions

What comes in this kit?
Two components shipped together: (1) the outdoor heat pump AAD-GLZS4BA3010A and (2) the indoor air handler AAD-AMST30BU13. Line set (refrigerant tubing), thermostat, ductwork, condensate drain, and electrical wiring are NOT included — your HVAC contractor supplies those. Electric heat kits for cold-weather backup are sold separately.
How does a heat pump actually heat my home?
A heat pump uses refrigerant to move heat between outdoors and indoors. In summer it absorbs heat from inside and releases it outside (cooling). In winter, a reversing valve flips the cycle — the outdoor unit extracts heat from the outdoor air (even when it's cold) and moves it inside. When outdoor temps drop below the heat pump's efficient operating range, supplemental electric heat kits in the air handler provide extra heat.
Heat pump vs. gas furnace — which one?
Go heat pump if you're in an all-electric home, a mild-to-moderate climate, or want the efficiency of electric heating. Go gas furnace (with a separate AC condenser) if you have natural gas service and a cold climate where gas heat is typically more cost-effective in the coldest months. Heat pumps have improved dramatically in cold weather over the past decade, but local utility rates and climate still matter.
Do I need a backup heat kit?
In mild climates, a heat pump alone is often enough. In colder climates, a field-installable electric heat kit is recommended — it runs when outdoor temps drop below the heat pump's efficient operating range and kicks in during defrost cycles. Your contractor sizes the kit based on your climate zone and heating load. The air handler in this kit accommodates those heat kits.
Why buy as a matched kit vs. separate components?
Matched systems are AHRI-certified to deliver their published SEER2 rating. Mix components from different model families and you'll often get lower real-world efficiency and hassles with warranty claims. The factory match also makes sure refrigerant line sizing, TXV calibration, and airflow are right from day one.
What size home does this system cover?
A 2.5-ton system typically handles homes in the 1,200–1,600 sq. ft. range for cooling. Heating load is more climate-dependent — a professional Manual J load calculation is the right way to confirm the system size for your home, especially for heat pump sizing in regions with hard winters.
What is R-32 refrigerant?
R-32 is replacing R-410A as the standard residential refrigerant. It runs more efficiently, uses roughly 30% less charge per system, and has a lower climate impact. EPA and AIM Act rules are phasing out R-410A. Not backward-compatible with R-410A equipment.
Can I install the air handler in any orientation?
Yes — the AAD-AMST30BU13 is a Multi-Position air handler. All four install orientations work: upflow, downflow, horizontal-left, horizontal-right. Your contractor picks the orientation based on your ductwork layout.
How do I register the warranty?
Register each component separately at Ace Air's warranty page within 60 days of installation. You'll need the model number and serial number (from each data plate), install date, and installing contractor info for both the heat pump and air handler. Miss the 60-day window and you drop to the shorter base warranty.
