Key Features

Why this coil works

R-32 Engineered

Built for R-32 from the ground up. Factory-installed refrigerant leakage detection sensor. R-32 is the new residential refrigerant standard — lower environmental impact, higher efficiency than old R-410A.

All-Aluminum Construction

Tubing, fins, and end plates — all aluminum. Excellent heat transfer. Resistant to formicary corrosion, the pinhole-leak failure mode that kills traditional copper coils in humid climates.

Factory-Installed TXV

Ships with a thermal expansion valve already installed — works in both cooling and heat pump setups. The TXV meters refrigerant flow automatically, keeping performance steady as load conditions change.

Upflow or Downflow — Your Choice

Install either orientation on standard furnace and air handler cabinets. The 21" cabinet depth makes attic installs easier to access.

Thermoplastic Drain Pan

Low water-retention drain pan with secondary drain connections. Foil-faced insulation cuts condensation. Drain pan rails allow repositioning without structural compromise.

Backed by Ace Air

10-Year Parts Limited Warranty when registered within 60 days of installation by a licensed HVAC pro. Galvanized, leather-grain cabinet finish built for long service life.

The CAPTA vertical evaporator coil is designed for 1.5 ton R-32 systems with a factory-installed thermal expansion valve and an all-aluminum coil. The cabinet uses foil-faced insulation to reduce condensation, and the coil is built with optimized circuits and manifolds for R-32 refrigerant. Available in upflow and downflow configurations with a 21-inch depth for easier attic access.

  • Factory-installed TXV — thermal expansion valve included for both cooling and heat pump applications.
  • Optimized for R-32 refrigerant — circuits, manifolds, and full-coil R-32 sensor designed for the life span of the coil.
  • All-aluminum evaporator coil — lightweight, corrosion-resistant construction with standardized copper suction tube stub length.
  • Vertical and horizontal mounting — single front access panel for service in either orientation.
  • 21-inch cabinet depth — fits standard attic and closet installations more easily than deeper coils.
  • Foil-faced insulation — reduces cabinet condensation in humid environments.
  • Galvanized leather-grain finish — rust-resistant cabinet with thermoplastic drain pans.
  • DecaBDE-free drain pan — low water-retention design with secondary drain connections.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does an evaporator coil do?
The evaporator coil is the indoor heat-exchanger in a split HVAC system. In cooling mode, refrigerant inside the coil absorbs heat from your indoor air — cooling it and pulling humidity out. In a heat pump system, the cycle reverses in winter and the coil releases heat indoors instead. The coil has to be matched to the outdoor condenser and the airflow system to work right.
What does "R-32 Only" actually mean?
This coil only works with R-32 refrigerant systems. It won't work with R-410A or R-22. R-32 runs at different pressures with different oils than legacy refrigerants — mix them and you'll damage the equipment and void warranties. If your existing outdoor unit is R-410A or R-22, this isn't your replacement.
How do I know if this cabinet size fits?
Cabinet width codes match the furnace or air handler underneath: A = 14", B = 17-1/2", C = 21", D = 24-1/2". The AAD-CAPTA1818B3A is a Cabinet B (17-1/2" wide). For a clean fit, match the coil cabinet letter to your furnace or air handler cabinet letter. Your HVAC contractor can verify compatibility with non-standard equipment.
Can I pair this with my existing condenser?
Only if your condenser is R-32. For rated efficiency and warranty coverage, the coil should be part of an AHRI-certified matched system designed to pair with the CAPTA coil family. Your contractor can verify the match using the model numbers.
What's a TXV and why does it matter?
A thermal expansion valve automatically meters refrigerant flow into the coil based on cooling demand. Compared to fixed-orifice metering, a TXV keeps performance steady across changing indoor and outdoor conditions. It's also required for most modern AHRI-certified matched systems. The AAD-CAPTA1818B3A ships with the TXV already installed.
What does "Vertical" mean for a coil?
A vertical coil sits directly above or below a furnace or air handler, with airflow moving vertically through it. This coil handles both upflow (air moves up through the coil from a furnace below) and downflow (air moves down through the coil from a furnace above). Your contractor picks the orientation based on your ductwork layout.
Why all-aluminum construction?
All-aluminum coils — tubing, fins, end plates — resist formicary corrosion. That's a pinhole-leak failure mode that hits traditional copper coils, especially in humid climates. Aluminum also transfers heat efficiently and keeps the coil lighter than equivalent copper designs.
How do I register for the 10-year warranty?
Register at Ace Air's warranty page within 60 days of installation. You need: model number (AAD-CAPTA1818B3A), serial number (from the data plate), install date, and installing contractor info. Miss the 60-day window and you drop to the shorter base warranty.
